first soap

My first attempt was on 17.01.10.

With time i understood that it wasn't so successful, as the saying goes: "you must spoil before you spin" or as Russian proverb says:"First pancake is a lump" :)

First i used special soap calculator, as people at soap forum advised and produced my 1st soap recipe:

Cocoa butter - 14.3% - 100gr,
coconut butter - 32.8% - 230gr,
oliva oil - 33% - 230gr,
apricot seeds oil - 7.1% - 50gr,
avocado oil - 5.7% - 40gr,
grape seeds oil - 5.7% - 40gr,
shea butter - 1.4% - 10gr.

Water - 38% - 266gr.
NaOH - 100,54gr.

To make all measurements right i needed electronic weights with scale 0.01gr.
So before all this process i wished to buy them. My dear brother gifted me them as New Year gift, so i was happy that i could start at last.

I knew that work with lye is very dangerous, as it is very caustic and purgent, and could make a huge burns of skin and eyes, so the work should be accompanied by the whole rules of safety. Safety first in this deal! So i bought glasses, rubber gloves, face mask, and cover everything with paper. All home-habitants were kept out from the kitchen, all protective clothes were wore, all ingredients were prepaired and the process started.

I weighted the solid oils and melted them on the kitchen oven, than add liquid oils and let them cool down. Meanwhile i prepared some ice, weighted a water and put it into the fridge. When you mix lye and water the solution will heat up very much, so it should be done in the heat-resistant dish. When our water is rather cold we pour the needed amount of lye into water! NOT WATER INTO LYE! Other way lye could foam and get out from the dish and this could hurt you. I put this dish to the other dish with ice, to cool it down. Mix it while the lye completely dissolve in water. It is ready when the solution is transparent.

Other step is to make the oils and lye solution to be the same tempreture. I didn't measure it with thermometer(i had't it), but many people advise so. I started to mix both masses when they are room tempreture.

I neatly poured lye solution in the oils by thin stream using sieve to prevent hit of undissolved lye into the mass.
And began to mix mass with spoon.
